Eventhough Xian Rui still likes Little Einsteins and his mom decided to have Mickey theme this year instead (last year's cake was Little Einsteins). Both big and normal size Mickey were freehand moulded, am not sure if I can still make the same Mickey or not... I really like how this big Mickey turns out :)

This cake was made last week, sorry for the delay in uploading. Would also like to thank Xian Rui's mom for sharing the Indonesia kuih and Lapis (they are really yummy, we all love it... eat until forgot to snap of picture of them, hehe).

This design is definitely not originated from me... I was given a picture to follow as closed as possible..... The only difference is I added the numeric 7 on cake as well as extra touch on cake board (the front part with birthday wishes). The wall effect was made with many (really a lot) small balls (easy to do but time consuming). The figurines were all freehand moulded.

Cake size is 10"+7" two tier round cakes. Was told to have this SShortcake girl (they are many SS girls, sorry I can't remember the name), Pupcake (dog) and Custard (cat) and strawbery house. I do not have time to mould extra Longface caterpillar, berrykins and other friends like Lemon, blueberry etc. Added the swing as this is one of the thing that Isabel likes besides slide.

All the details in this cake were made of fondant. The two previous cakes I made was kiddy theme (spongebob in Jan 2010 and Minnie with her pink car in Jan 2011), was trying to make the cake not so kiddy look and have the skyline as the side decor (like the skyline and moulded Superman). Take longer time than I expected to complete this. Cake size is 10" round cake.

McQueen and Mater in Desert

This cake is heavy... 9"+8"+5" cakes. I would like to thank "N" for taking the trouble to bring the two model cars (the two smaller McQueen and Mater on the road) to my place. It certainly helped a lot in moulding (it's a lot harder to mould by looking at picture from internet). I am really happy with the outcome of the moulded McQueen and Mater (on blue cake and on cake board). "N" leaves the entire design to me including the cake colours. He is fine with cake wastage due to carving if needed... Initially thinking of making tunnel... but have changed my plan after I received those model cars :) Overall, I am happy to see this cake.

Told 'S' in advance that I can only make a simplify optimus prime and with my skill I am not able to do as detailed as per the toy. This theme is not my strength.

Gabriel's dad emailed me and wanted to get a Barney cake for Gabriel's second birthday celebration (made Gabriel's Pocoyo cake last year). I feel bad that I couldn't not make it for this year, hence I offer to make this Barney figurine.... Gabriel is lucky to have his auntie to bake for him his birthday cake. Though I do not have the opportunity to see my freehand moulded figurine on someone's bakes but am happy that Gabriel is blessed to have such a nice auntie to do it for him. Nothing beat bakes out of love.....

Castle for two sisters

I can feel that we as parents always wanted to give our child the best..... "Y" kindly let me decide on castle theme cake for her daughters to celebrate their 2nd and 4th birthdays.

Initially she gave me a much smaller princesses figurines (you can see the two smaller version standing next to the numeric 2 & 4 and some of them were placed behind and side of cake which cannot be seen in this picture). Later, she take the trouble to search for bigger size princesses to give the cake a better and nicer look (I personally feel that bigger size princesses yields better result for this cake). As she has indicated her liking to this design (Kyrene's castle cake which is 10"+8" round cake whereas this cake is 8"+6"), I decided to do something similar eventhough she leave the design to me.

Note: All the princesses figurines were plastic toy provided by birthday girls' mom.

Back to this cake, did it till midnight and slept for two hours and got up again to continue (as I need to rush back to see my dad....thank god he's better now). I have wrongly placed the numeric 1 on bottom tier cake instead of top tier and Sarah mom is kind to accept this. My apology for the mistake and thank you for you kindness. I did similar design with green/orange/green colour earlier as requested..... had wanted to make the original blue/orange/blue colour.... (honestly if you asked me, I prefer blue and orange combination more than green and orange combi). As indicated earlier, I did not come out with the design, it was sent to me by Xarl's mom previously.... This cake was requested by Melcolm mother's friends and is a gift to Melcolm, was asked not to change anything except to add the birthday wishes (and of course the name of birthday child).

Bottom tier is a dummy (non-edible), only middle and top tiers are cakes.

3D carved Thomas train

Did Lucius's cake last year, and was told Lucius likes 'stars'.... No special requests from Lucius's mom except for Thomas theme, stars and cake size..... I carved Thomas from 8" square cake (ie equivalent to 9" round cake size), oh btw, Lucius's mom allows me to do anything on cake (tho there will be some cake wastage due to carving)..... My first time making 3D Thomas train cake and I must admit that this cake is time consuming but I truly enjoy myself the process of making..... isn't the 3D cake looks nicer than the freehand moulded Thomas train? I'm glad that Lucius and mom like it (it means a lot to me).

A very busy week for me.... here's my first time carved 2D Hello Kitty Shaped cake .... was given a picture and Mia's mom said she doesn't mind a lot of cake wastage from carving as long as it looks realistic (I carved the round cake to a little oval shape to make the face more like Hello Kitty face instead of more roundish face and the body is also carved from cake.... it took me quite a while to complete the whole cake....). End result is my family likes it (thought none is Kitty fans... ). Btw, last year Mia has a Pocoyo theme cake :)

This is the cake for Vanessa.... it was a rush cake as I had a gathering on Tuesday afternoon (have no choice but to excuse myself before it ends... so that I can rush home and complete the cake). She can't bear to cut the cake and brought it home to show her family .... and guess what, she brought the 'cut cake' back to school to share with her classmates.... she is really a thoughtful kid.

Making this for my friend.... it's 6" dummy with free hand moulded Ballerina Angelina on one side and the other side is a little girl with green outfit (my friend's daughter likes green....). My last cake before I'm off.... Am really happy how this cake turns out. This is the forth cake I made for Gabby (1st cake, 2nd cake, 3rd cake... pls click link here to view the previous cake). Gabby's mom likes the 100 acre wood's colour (did that for bottom tier 9" cake). Strawberry house was carved from 7" equivalent round cake. I put in a lot of time on this cake and also I am really happy with how the strawberry shortcake girl turns out, my best ever human moulding thus far.....

3D Police Cap Cake

Police cap was carved from cake..... I certainly need to improve on this 3D police cap... was too caution of too much cake wastage and left lesser cake to consume (my biggest mistake here)... Besides, the fondant texture was affected due to too much of colours added to achieve the cap colour (hence make it harder to handle). Bottom tier is 8" round cake, police cap was carved from 6" cake :)

Last week was really a hectic and rush week for me with the party moved forward and some last minutes changes...... thank god is over.... Xarl's mom is very specific on what she wanted. She gave me picture of cake design she wanted (right hand side blue/orange/blue cake). Was asked to change blue colour to this green and change the tigger (there's another tigger picture given) and add the wavy white clouds and two green fishes. Honestly I was worry of the colour combination and glad that it turns out better than I expected. Would really love to try out this design with original blue/orange/blue colours as I have fallen in love with this design. Thanks to Xarl's mom for providing the source picture and the person who made Sem's cake. Thank you. Not forgetting to thank my buddy 'S' sister for the square cutter (it helps a lot in making this cake). A big THANK YOU to all of you. Btw, the bottom tier was not cake, it was a 'dummy' :)

As I'm not a golfer myself, I did not realised that I've made the clubs for left handed golfers (until I was pointed out) and I need to improve in making clubs.... Yes to me, there's no rules in playing golf, since it's short by 'mm' for the golf ball to enter last hole (No 18), I am letting the golfer to push it in with his finger instead (lol). I was searching from internet for whale's picture in Nemo movie... oh boy, hardly any (spent hours in looking for it). In the end, I decided to use Humpback whale as a guide to mould it.... hip hip hooray, am really happy to see how the whale turns out with his blowhole (I think can't see it clearly in my picture) and different shade of colour for it's body. Since Dory and whale to be the main characters, hence Nemo is left swimming behind Dory :)

Lego pieces cake for Cheyne

This is one of the many cakes that I'm looking forward to make.... tho extra hours are needed to carve and cover them one by one with different shade of colours, I truly enjoy the process .... I particularly like the numeric 1 with lego design which I put the dots one after another (thank you to the good hot weather, else the numeric 1 will not stand upright) and the freehand moulded Mickey (love it). The not so satisfying piece is the brown figurine behind the little boy.....can you guess what it is..... does it look like a 'toy bear' to you ?... (haha there is a story behind it). Very similar to the Sesame train I did before..... not much of changes made except for coverring cake board with fondant and add the big numeric 1 on top tier.

XXL Tiger with normal size animals

Kylor's mom requested for a Tiger with any other animals, birthday wishes and covering cake board with fondant and she leaves the design to me. My initial plan was to make a XL Tiger and it ended up became a double XL Tiger (no wonder I used up so much of the fondant just to make this XXL Tiger). There are many ways to mould tiger, this is one of many I attempted. Thanks for the trust I get from many of you to leave the design to me :)

Design is similar to Jovin's Park & Clubhouse posted earlier and Kristin's mom managed to get her friends to buy those plastic figurines (same as Jovin's) and shipped from USA. Not much changes made to earlier design except of minor differences here and there. Have put in some hearts for V Day. Happy V Day to all!

Made these two different designs to welcome year of RABBIT... one is RICE BUCKET (wanted to put the chinese word 'FULL' on rice bucket but weather is really wet these two days and I skip that); the other one is CHEST BOX FULL OF INGOTS (initial plan was to have God of Fortune figurine with rabbits but am really busy and have no time to mould)...

I take this opportunity to wish everyone a very Happy Lunar New Year! May all stay healthy and happy always!

Would also like to thank my friend "C" for bringing the roller to my place despite the jam.... it was really nice to see the print on red fondant when it's done but due to wet weather, the fondant melted along the way and the print was not visible (what a disappointment).

Btw, I am off for CNY break and may not attend to mails during this period. Thank you for your understanding......

After I completed this cake, my daughter was asking me why Piglet trying to get the beehive and not Pooh..... hmmmmmm I told her that Piglet is Pooh's buddy and that is why Piglet is trying to get that for Pooh (what a lame excuse.... reason is Pooh might be too heavy and the tree branch may not be able to support Pooh's weight...).

Time flies..... it has been a year passed since I made Fatimah's cake last year (click link here for last year's cake). The celebration was last weekend (sorry was not able to upload picture earlier).... All I was asked is to have a single tier 10" cake with Minnie theme, black minnie face at the side of cake and most importantly cake must be 'PINKY'.... really pinky.....

3D Tree stump for Pooh and friends

Sometime back in August last year, Hayden's (also Vanessa's) mom contacted me and asked me to make a cake for her baby Hayden's first birthday. Knowing she is an easy going lady and without much request on the design (after the experience I had when I made her older child Vanessa's cake, click link here to view the cake.... http://gladcake.blogspot.com/2009/07/vanessas-pm-with-farm-animals.html), I actually propose to her (when she sent the numeric 1 candle to me this month) that I am thinking of carving the cake into 3D tree stump shaped using same amount of cake batter for 8" cake.... as expected she is fine with it (see that is what I say she's an easy going lady, hehe). Though it requires more time to carve the cake and more fondant needed, overall I am happy how the cake turns out especially when she told me she likes it (she has no idea how the overall design will look like until the cake is done - since she left the design to me). I was really stress when I carry the cake downstairs as the swing keeps moving non-stop (was afraid that it may drop.... stress, on second thought, should I make the swing to really move next time....).

Blue & White colour theme for JACE

My very first cake for Year 2011..... Was asked to do Blue and White colour theme and "JACE" as cake topper., Noted from Jace's mom earlier requirement that she wanted something more elegant but suggested to her to have some fun element in it since it's for baby boy (hence I added extra cows and the boy figurine to the cake). I was trying very hard to restrict my colours to blue and white only (except for the cow print which I can't help to have black colour). Thanks to Jace's mom for leaving the design to me and am glad that she loves the design.

Cows theme for Mummy & Baby

Mummy Griselda's birthday and baby Johanes's birthday are quite closed (and having same zodiac ie cow). Hence the cake is made with two sides, one side for Baby and the other side for Mummy. The snake (see next picture for snake with diff angle) in between baby wearing cow suit and mummy cow represents daddy in the family.

I only committed to this cake for December 2010 as I will be away again which the date is not very certain yet.... Sorry for those that I have to turn down your requests.
